1.
The Battle for Skandia by John Flanagan
(Read 1/1/2010)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m really loving how this series is developing. Will and Horace came into their own in this book and the action at the end of the book is, by far, the best in the series as of yet.
Flanagan has managed to shift almost completely away from the style adapted in his first book and it’s easy to forget now that I am reading a young adult series. Lots of suspense, action and even a little bit of heartbreak in this continuation of the story and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
2. The Sorcerer in the North by John Flanagan
(Read 1/1/2010)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Five years have passed and Will is now a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to care for. But things are dull there and so he’s assigned a dangerous mission by Crowley and Halt.
Full of the fun and adventure I’ve come to expect now from Flanagan, this book doesn’t disappoint. It was good to see Will as a full Ranger instead of an Apprentice and, of course, to be reunited with Alyss and Horace as well.
Good, solid read. Really loving this series.
3. The Siege of Macindaw by John Flanagan
(Read 1/1/2010)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My biggest problem with this book is that I feel as if it is the 2nd half to book 5. It feels as if in Book 5 Flanagan learns about cliffhangers, but instead of having a real cliffhanger he has one that would normally be found at the end of a chapter. So, Book 6 ends up being simply the second half (and fulfilling half) of Book 5.
Will, Horace and Alyss shine in this conclusion of the adventure at Macindaw. The series feels as if it could come to a peaceful conclusion here and I think I’ll take a bit of a break before moving on to #7.

Welcome to the Young Adult Reading Challenge. This is going to be a fun reading year. Happy New Year!!
